I’d like to be able to title this “Growing bananas” but in my case that’s not quite true. I’ve never had banana plants before so I have no clue. A couple weeks ago, one of my banana stalks that had tiny bananas on it just fell over. Like it got tired and leaned over from the waist. I figured I hadn’t been watering enough or something. That corner is full of junk and I wasn’t in mood to clean it up. Today I was out in my garden and noticed a vivid yellow from the pile of stuff. I look and find 8 ripe mini-bananas.
Ok, so I figure these are going to taste terrible or be bug-ridden or something. I cut the stalk and bring it in. The biggest one is about 1 inch in diameter (almost like a normal banana) but is only about 2 inches long. And they taste delicious! What a nice surprise. I still have another stalk that is growing. Maybe I’ll have “real bananas” vs. short ones!
My little bananas plus my yellow pear tomatoes and a few Kalamansi are pictured.
