Another gecko saved!
For the last couple weeks we’ve had 2 very small geckos (1.5″ max) take up residence in our Living Room. At first we thought it was just one but the other day we realized there really are 2. They must be brothers…for some reason I think all geckos are male.
Yesterday morning, I was drinking my coffee and reading email when Mooshie starts squeaking. Finally, I go to see what she is telling me about only to find one of our geckos on the floor, no tail (remember they drop their tail as a defense mechanism) and one badly injured leg. Mooshie looked very guilty; I think she knows that we don’t like when she eats geckos. But he is still alive. My heart went out. Surely he can’t survive, so tiny and with one totally destroyed leg.
I protected him from the cats and went down and told Peter that he should kill it. He disagreed and instead we took him outside to “give him a chance”.
Later in the day, I looked for him where we put him and I couldn’t find him. Maybe he was hiding or something had gotten him. Oh well, we gave him a chance.
So 4pm in the afternoon, I am working on my computer when I see something move high up on the foyer wall. I look. No, it can’t be. Yes it is. Little gecko with no tail and broken leg. He is scurrying around like nothing is wrong. He has returned home.
We decided to name him Lukoki which is Lucky in Hawaiian. We are still looking for a name for his brother. Any suggestions?
