This morning I had to get up early to head out to Ahihi Cove to volunteer. I asked Peter to set the alarm for me and he did… he sets up his IPod to play nice soothing music. This morning we heard the Hawaiian Lullaby by Na Leo. The song is one of those that stays in your head, no matter what you do. The CD name is the words to the song and the title to my blog.
It just set the tone for a perfect Sunday. Originally, Peter had planned to go out for a dive this morning while I worked. But we listened to the weather last night and it sounded gloom. Southern swell, high winds and rain… Peter asked me if I have to work if it is raining. Turned out that it wasn’t the most calm day on the ocean but it was beautiful. That is Maui; never believe the weather reports! We had over 100 snorkelers and divers. It was sunny all morning.
When I got home, I shared a quick lunch with Widgit and decided to wash the car. I was in “beachwear” meaning waterproof everything including sunscreen. So I washed my car; then I washed Peter’s truck. I worked with Widgit on my project of running a drip system across the lanai. Widgit loves projects. In the middle of the project, we had a 15 minute rain storm; luckily at least my car was in the garage. “Where I live… there are rainbows… yes there is a small double rainbow. We finish the project and clean off the lanai. Widgit looks up at me and her eyes say “But Mom… I don’t want to go in yet. You need to take a break”. So I grab a cold drink and go out and sit on the lanai. Widgit immediately comes and deliberately sits in the chair next to me looking like she was the smartest, all knowing being in the universe. She decided that she loves the breezes and the birdies singing but she hates the dogs barking. Taking breaks is a good thing but a hot shower was calling.
Now the shower is done, the sun is setting over gray clouds. My hair is still wet but I’m sitting in shorts and an aloha shirt and sandals. I’m still hearing that song in my head… and it has been another magical day on Maui.
