No one thinks that Maui could have winter. Well today we had “Maui winter”. I could not see across the street. It was raining so hard and the winds were blowing the rain sideways. We lost power about 8:30 am. Peter went to Kahului to get food and ice. He got what he needed about the time Kahului lost power. On the trip home the roads were all flooded…glad he had his truck with the new tires! Widgit got stepped on several times because she was “underfoot”. She hates thunder! A small tree in my back yard is down.
My house got power washed. Mind you that it rains so seldom in Kihei that no one has gutters. My backyard is totally saturated — like a 10′ pond! The Kona winds have not stopped though the rains have let up a bit. I would wager that our drought is over. The diving will be terrible for at least a week.
I feel blessed that we had a great meal that Peter cooked on the grill. We had dinner by candle light which is very rare here. The ceiling fans and candles usually don’t mix. I got some jobs done that I’ve been putting off. When you have no computer, you can do other jobs! I cleaned the interiors of the windows. It was easy since they all were covered with condensation. I dusted and mopped the floors. I cleaned the ceiling fans…didn’t even have to turn them off. I fixed the toilet… yes I replaced both valves and luckily no leaks!
I do hope we are back to “normal” tomorrow. I slept with earplugs last night. I wouldn’t have slept at all without them but it wasn’t a good night’s sleep.
I still haven’t broken out my Christmas stuff…
