I don’t know how long it has been. We took Widgit in yesterday for her blood tests. With our little Widgit that means staying a few hours because they have to put her under. I understand the “attack” Widgit too well. Her markers came back mixed (some higher, some lower) but definitely doing better. As she has gotten stronger, it is harder and harder to hold her still for her fluid injections and pilling. I’ve taken the role of “holder” while Peter is the “injector”. Widgit has never liked being held. We have a pillow and I try to envelope her with a big beach towel. So her newest trick is to “bury” herself into mom. She just leans into me and buries her face in my chest. Then I try to extract her enough to get the job done. We haven’t had any total failures. I did make a mistake this morning and leave her “pill pocket” with 3 little pills buried in a “treat” out and Mooshie ate it! Mooshie is still eating everything. One of the pills was an appetite stimulant- definitely not needed! So I learned to be more careful.
Widgit is eating a little better but has still lost weight. So we are back to Ahi supplements in addition to her pills. She does munch on her “kidney” food so that is good. She has more energy each day and was going up and down stairs with ease today… just because she heard someone in the kitchen. She insists on being with us…and jumped up on my desk a few times.
My goal is that we can do injection+morning pills in less than 15 minutes. Today it was about 50! We are all learning… and perfecting techniques.
I still feel very blessed to have my Widgit…
