The first time I ever came to Hawaii, I lived through Hurricane Ewa (1983). My luggage was in Maui and I was in Waikiki. We lost power for a few hours. I had just bought my timeshare that the next day I heard had some damage and that the swimming pool was filled with sand.
Fast forward to today. We are vacationing on the Big Island which is where Hurricane Flossie is expected to hit the hardest. Schools were closed in preparation. Businesses closed.
We went diving this morning. The boat harbor was empty. We had great conditions. Sunny for the most part with calm waters. Flossie had slowed down. We wait. Lunch places are closed. The supermarkets are still open. We eat sushi at home. We wait. We nap. No rain, no wind, just overcast skies. We wake up. Flossie has slowed more. We are still waiting and hoping we find a place to eat tonight. We heard rain has started on the other side of the isle.
We are great. We have enjoyed our vacation to date. We are hoping to dive tomorrow.
