Wailea is the golden jewel of South Maui. It is a popular tourist destination with premiere resorts including Grand Wailea, Four Seasons, Fairmont Kehalani and the new Andaz. In addition there are plenty of luxurious, beachfront Vacation Rental Condos. With premiere golf courses, exquisite dining and beautiful beaches, Wailea is perfect for executives.
CITIES/TOWNS: Wailea and Makena is officially still Kihei but together are recognized as real estate district. Also nearby, Maui Meadows is a separate district. ZIPCODES: 96753
Wailea Real Estate includes everything from $500,000 condos up to $20+ million dollar beachfront properties. And for the people who really want to get away from the hustle and bustle, the Wailea district also includes beautiful Makena, the town farthest south on Maui’s west side. Makena is the home of popular Big Beach, Little Beach (clothing optional!) and Ahihi-Kinau National Area Reserve where the last lava flow on Maui happened hundreds of years ago.
Wailea is known for it’s fabulous golf courses, luxury resorts and beautiful beaches. Throughout the neighborhoods and resorts, you find tropical, manicured grounds and gated communities. Wailea is located just south of Kihei along the South Maui coastline. This location has nearly perfect weather year round. Further to the south you find beautiful Makena…not as manicured or developed but exclusive.
Wailea real estate is predominately condominium sales with only 1 out of 4 listings being residential. Even many of those are planned residential condos. Prices start at about $500,000 but the average and median prices are 1-2 million. There are many $5+ million dollar oceanfront properties that can severely skew and statistics! Your choices for real estate are driven by your preferences to beach or golf course, great views or easy access to the beach. In general, you’ll find that luxury abounds throughout Wailea.
Wailea begins just south of Kilohana Drive and continues down just past Po’olenalena Beachpark where Makena begins. Although, it shows up on the Wailea maps, Maui Meadows is not considered to be part of Wailea. Of course, they are all technically Kihei! If you write a contract, we specify the address as Kihei. The post office does recognize Wailea and businesses will use that address. However, smart homeowners often say they live in Kihei (vs. Wailea) to avoid price expansion on services.
My favorite restaurants include Capische? at the Wailea Resort, Ko at the Fairmont and Pita Paradiso and Monkeypod at the Wailea Gateway Center. Mulligan’s on the Blue is a great Irish Pub for a night of great music. If you have a favorite, make sure to let me know! All the beaches are beautiful but Ulua Beach is a favorite snorkeling/scuba place for beginners with it’s sandy beaches and rocky outcropping. If you get out early, keep your eyes open for Manta Rays! Another beautiful beach famous for having lots of turtles is at the Makena Beach Resort (formerly known as The Maui Prince).
