This morning I walked out to get my paper and the air smelled so fresh! The recent rains bring amazing things to the parched side of our islands. I’ve had plans for over a year to freshen my site but recently, I had insight that is making me streamline my blogging. Recently I’ve been working on several websites that have yet to fully deploy but not my own. Currently I post to 4 (yes 4!) blogs on a pseudo-regular basis.
- The Maui Minute – my real estate blog
- At Home In Maui – my personal blog and meanderings about life
- Shenanigans – about my kitties and the joy they bring
- Maui Green – about environmental and sustainability issues
Can you tell that I’m married to a social media fanatic? They each have their own audience but it has just added a level of clutter that I’m not sure I need. I have decided to eliminate my personal blog and merge it with my professional blog. We often work hard with our clients to make them “professional” and urge them to have a professional appearance. So why am I making the change? I am just one person, and a pretty professional one at that. I don’t lead 2 lives and I don’t leave my work at the office.
This revelation came recently when clients asked me about whether to move furniture or buy new when moving to Maui. I remembered that I actually started my personal blog to communicate to friends and family during the move. It was an easy way to share info with Peter (who was in Maui). But looking back it was a great summary of the issues around moving. So I shared it with my clients.
Although I will import many kitty posts, we will keep our kitties in a separate blog moving forward. Both Peter and I post there and it is really nice to have a chronicle of our ‘kids’. Maui Green definitely has a different following. I may double post things there and in “My Blog”. Again, Peter and a few others occasionally post so I’ll leave that alone for now.
Right now my site is a mix of old Web 1.0 and my blog. I will be moving the whole thing into blog format and just integrating some of my special real estate search features. So when you land on kathybecklin.com, you’ll see my blog. When you land on BuyHomeInMaui.com, you’ll be on a real estate landing page with all my blog content. I may even create a few other landing pages to focus on specific clients. I’ll be playing around with a new look and feel, so be patient and give me feedback!
