I slept 2 hours last night. I’m sitting in Le Boulanger, enjoying a strong coffee, the best sourdough rolls and internet access. I know that this coffee will determine if I live or die today!
In my typical way, I underestimated the time to do some painting in the house. I finished up at midnight but still had 1 small project and 1 medium sized project to do. Since I’m a morning person, I set the alarm for 5:20 and fell asleep. So here is the picture (I should have really taken one!). The house cleaners are coming at 8:30am. These aren’t regular house cleaners; this is the cleaning team that will clean everything top to bottom, shampoo the carpet and wash windows inside and out. I’m starting my runs to the Hazardous Waste Center at 8:00. DOT only allows 50 lbs of waste in a vehicle so I correctly estimate 3 trips.
The leftover paint is hazardous waste. I must finish before 8 am! And I must have the house picked up for the cleaners. I guess my mind knew that I wouldn’t finish so when it started pouring at 2:30, I woke up and couldn’t get back to sleep. So I finished the painting jobs, took a long shower and started picking up the house. I thought I did pretty well; the painters knew I was still living there – right? The only area that I purposefully left messy was the paint bathroom (medium project) so that they would stay out of it and give it an extra hour to dry. Wrong… I get home and he’s moved all the stuff to the hallway and says that “homeowner wasn’t ready for them”. I don’t know what my real estate agent told them but he certainly didn’t tell me that the cleaners expected a totally empty house!
So they’ve taken all the stuff that I had put away in cupboards so that I could easily pack for giving away to Salvation Army and stashed them so that I’ll have no access until they leave.
Maybe I need to go give that “relative roles” speech. That’s difficult because the English is maybe 1st grade level! I’m not blaming them… but my real estate agent has another strike against him. I figured they were the same cleaners he’d use if I had all my stuff there; I have no idea how they’d clean then? I really didn’t think about it much but am glad they are doing a good job…I hope.
Well the house is painted… generally looks good though there are a few places that are funny because I missed places due to lack of light. Remember we packed all our lights… I had 2 lights; one dim one that wouldn’t stay where you put it and one little broken halogen one that cast great light except the base is broken and it would fall over.
I better have another cup of coffee and go home to pack charity stuff.
Tomorrow I have my one way trip to Maui.
